Although the visitors of Khao Tao are often just tourists of its neighboring beaches, this sleepy fishing village South of Hua Hin and Cha-Am can rival the most popular beaches in the area in terms of tranquility and attractions available in and around its own beachfronts.
Khao Tao, not to be confused with the diving island of Koh Tao, is located about 18 kilometers from Hua Hin roughly 15 to 20 minutes away. It has two beautiful beaches: the Suan Son Beach (or the Sea Pine Tree Garden Beach) and the Hat Sai Noi Beach (or the Small Sandy Beach), both located within minutes from each other. The village also boasts a magnificent temple atop a hill, several caves, numerous Buddha statues and shrines, fishing community, fresh water lakes and many others.
The biggest attraction of this village is the small charming beach of Hat Sai Noi. With just about 1 kilometer of sandy beach rarely visited by tourists, you’ll enjoy an almost secluded beach vacation, especially on weekdays. From the shallow waters of the beach, the sea bottom drops quickly near the shore, making it possible to enjoy a deep swimming near the beach. Along the beach, a few restaurants are located serving fresh-caught seafood and other local delicacies. The Hat Sai Noi is a quiet beach and is perfect for families with kids, couples and senior citizens looking for peaceful and calm surroundings.
Another attraction worth seeing is the village temple complex at the top of the hill containing a number of caves, Buddha statues and shrines. There’s a deck with a large golden Buddha, which can also be seen from the beach, sitting on its top. In addition, a breathtaking water lake that is worth seeing during sunset can also be found just a few meters from the beach. There is also a fishing area with boats docked all around and could be part of a half-day trip in Khao Tao.
It is easy to get to the Hat Sai Noi beach and the temple complex near it. Just follow the road signs from the Petchakasem Road. Follow the Hat Sai Noi Beach sign on the left of the main highway and continue towards the railway, turn right before the lake and keep to the left of the road. You will soon be greeted by the beach.
The idyllic village of Khao Tao has yet to be discovered by most but already housing developments can be found within its vicinity. It is hoped that these constructions will not disturb the quietness of the village and that the developments will be made in a way that the beaches will remain unspoiled and pristine. The beauty of this district truly lies on its clean and serene beaches. So if you’re looking for a quiet vacation with your family, this town is equally worth your visit to other popular beaches of the province. And if you’re already in Hua Hin or Cha-Am, just go further south and visit the charming little village of Khao Tao.
