Why the Hua Hin Railway Station is a Must-See Attraction of the Province

Before the World War II even began, the Hua Hin town, which was still named Samore Riang at that time, was already popular among the people of Thailand. The building of the Marukhathaiyawan Palace by the King Rama VI has put the place on the map, but it was the construction of the state railway and the Hua Hin Railway Station connecting Hua Hin with Bangkok in 1920s that has paved the way for the Hua Hin beach to become a famously frequented vacation province of many city tourists.

Today, the Hua Hin Railway Station, one of the oldest railway stations in the whole country, is also known as one of the most beautiful. Although the steam train bought from England was already replaced by modern trains run by electricity motors, it was still very much preserved. The Royal Waiting Room was built to the order of the King, adopting the same style as the Marukhathaiyawan Palace. At about 1974, the room was transferred from Sanamchan Palace in Nakorn Pathom province to Hua Hin and became the official waiting room of the royalty and their entourage when they were visiting the town. The room was originally a pavilion named Plub Pla Sanamchan. Nowadays, it is the most photographed and the most unique structure at the railway station, attracting tourists from all over the country. Together with the old steam train, the Royal Waiting Room makes the Hua Hin Railway Station a must-see attraction of Hua Hin.

It’s easy to get to the station. The train station is located at the West end of the Damnoern Kasem Road right in the heart of the town. It’s a major tourist attraction in Hua Hin and is visited by local and foreign tourists alike every day. At the back of the station, you will find the English steam locomotive with Thailand’s colors flying on its top. And at the front, there are also renovated carriages converted into libraries that are open to public from Mondays through Saturdays. Near the waiting shed sits the imposing structure of the Royal Waiting Room where you’ll commonly find tourists having their pictures taken.

The Hua Hin Railway Station with its majestic Royal Waiting Room truly has managed to retain its old atmosphere of grandeur and charm even after so many years. And because it is still fully functioning, the unique train station gives train riders more reasons to travel by train when going to Hua Hin. If you don’t like traveling by train or riding the train to Hua Hin does not include your vacation plans, it would be worth reconsidering taking the train once you’re in Hua Hin or perhaps changing your traveling plans altogether. Of course, you can always forego the train-riding and just have a look-see of the room. Whatever you plan to do, the stately room of this quaint station is a must see when you’re in Hua Hin.
