There are several interesting attractions in Hua Hin, a district in Prachuap Khiri Khan Province located in the South of Bangkok. From water attractions, to historical and cultural ones, you’d find them in this small beach town-and for most tourists, that hardly comes as a surprise. But to hear that Hua Hin has a winery attraction is something totally unexpected for others. Believe it or not, Hua Hin, most famous for its quiet beaches, has a vineyard that not only produces wines, but produces wines that are internationally award-winning. Obviously, Thailand’s tropical climate did not stop the Hua Hin Hills Vineyard from producing wines that have recently made the country a serious competitor in the global winemaking industry.

Located in what used to be an elephant corral, the Hua Hin Hills Vineyard offers a tour of the winery atop an elephant, and serves wines and delicious cuisines at the onsite restaurant. It is situated 35 kilometers West of Hua Hin, and is about an hour’s drive from the Petchaburi province. It manufactures wines with incredibly high quality for a country where producing good wines seems implausible because of its weather.

The Hua Hin Hills Vineyard is a wine-making company that also offers a vineyard tours on the side. For some, touring around the grape vegetation from the back of an elephant makes the vineyard a unique attraction and their visit utterly worth it, but for others, it is their wine produce that really sells it. The tour, which consists of wine tasting, an educational dialogue about the distinctive aroma of wines, wine glasses, grape harvesting, wine production year and vintage, is engaging especially if you’re really fascinated with wines and the production of the beverages. And if you’re one of the people with an interest in these things, you’d find that the best part is drinking in the wine bar where you could try virtually every vintage of wines they have in stock. As a matter of fact, some wine enthusiasts only visit the vineyard to have a taste of their famous white Shiraz.

But just because it is a winery doesn’t mean you can’t bring your kids along. Aside from the bar, they also have a restaurant that features a kids’ menu. Guests are also encouraged to bring their kids during the harvest festival period every March, when visitors can join in the grape-picking activity in the vineyard. During this time, there would also be lots of activities and live music to accompany the festivities. If you’re going to Hua Hin at this time of year, it would be great to include a tour of the vineyard in your itinerary.

The Hua Hin Hills Vineyard is open everyday and the restaurant serves food from 11:00 A.M. to 5:30 P.M. You may also try some of their wines that come highly recommended by many wine lovers like the Colombard and the Monsoon Valley Wines. In addition to the tour and the wine in the restaurant, the vineyard also has a lounge which they call “Sala”, where guests can enjoy a panoramic view of the plant and the countryside.
